4-Day Tour Guide to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Kasese, Rubirizi, Kamwenge, and Rukungiri.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of Uganda’s most popular safari destinations. Located in the western section of the Great African Rift Valley, it is bordered by the majestic Rwenzori Mountains (also known as the Mountains of the Moon). The park is home to over 95 mammal species—including 10 primates such as chimpanzees, vervet, blue, red-tailed, L’Hoest monkeys, colobus, and baboons—plus around 20 predators like lions, leopards, and spotted hyenas. Other wildlife includes buffaloes, elephants, antelopes, hippos, and over 600 bird species.
While the park boasts incredible diversity, it does not have giraffes, impalas, zebras, or rhinos. Visitors can explore crater lakes, both salty and freshwater, enjoy views of the Kazinga Channel, and marvel at the Ishasha plains where tree-climbing lions—males with striking black manes—can be found.
The Kazinga Channel is famed for having the world’s largest concentration of hippos. A boat cruise here offers spectacular wildlife encounters and breathtaking sunsets over the water.
